Gastric contents

Gastric contents are what comprise most of the emesis that is encountered.  This may have a yellow to clear appearance due to the presence of gastric acid.  There may be food products present in the emesis and the color often varies based on what has been ingested.  Dark green hues may be indicative of an intestinal obstruction and surgical emergency.  Gastric contents are usually representative of a less ominous cause of the vomiting but still needs to be considered and evaluated appropriately based on history, presentation, and examination.
