Herpes simplex keratitis

Herpes simplex keratitis can present with keratoconjunctivitis and may include symptoms such as conjunctival injection, discharge, and blurred vision. It may also involve the cornea, starting out as a punctate lesion and eventually evolving into a dendritic pattern. Corneal fluorescein staining reveals a true dendrite with linear branches and terminal bulbs. Epithelial erosion may also be associated with the dendrite. This is in contrast to the poorly staining pseudodendrite without erosion seen with herpes zoster ophthalmicus.
