Mixed toe web infection

Mixed toe web infections represent a polymicrobial process including both fungal and bacterial infections. In addition to typical erythema and scaling of tinea pedis, these infections may also have desquamation, maceration of tissue, or purulent discharge. A sharply demarcated edge also suggests this bacterial complication. This diagnosis should be suspected in patients with presumed tinea pedis who fail treatment with typical antifungal medications. Skin scrapings and culture results are utilized to guide systemic treatment.
